There are currently more than 111,682 people in the United States waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Sadly, 18 people will die today and every day waiting.
The Mid-South Transplant Foundation (MSTF) is the federally designated Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) serving western Tennessee, eastern Arkansas and northern Mississippi. Their mission is to improve the quality of lives through excellence in the process of organ and tissue donation and transplantation. They provide the option of organ and tissue donation to all potential donor families; and work closely with the hospitals and transplant centers in their service area.
MSTF educates the medical and general communities about organ and tissue donation and the state Registries which are making a positive difference in the number of lives saved. In the Mid-South, 26 percent of all organ donors this year to date have been registered donors compared to 18 percent last year. Of all tissue donors so far this year, 40 percent have been registered donors.
Checking “Yes” on a state Registry is a legal, binding document and guarantees your decision will be honored. Individuals can sign up on the Registry when they get or renew their driver’s license, online or by mail.
Register today to become an organ and tissue donor. Help save more lives by having Registry information available in your office for your patients and staff. For materials or more information contact MSTF at 901-328-4438/877-228-5433 or visit www.midsouthtransplant.org
