Hospital Announces Address Change

In preparation for the opening of the new patient care tower, Jackson-Madison County General Hospital announced that their address will change to 620 Skyline Drive effective August 1, 2008.

“When the new tower opens in late September, the entrance for patients and visitors will be off Skyline Drive, so we are changing our address to reflect the new ‘front door’ of the hospital,” said Vice President of Communications Jan Boud.

“We have worked with the post office on this for several months and they have agreed to forward the mail for one year to the new address,” said Boud.

Grand opening events are being planned and moving plans are being finalized for the September move into the new tower. Ground breaking for the new tower occurred in June, 2005. Known as the A Tower, this new area is more than 365,000 sq. ft. and is home to 284 new rooms for patients. The new rooms are larger and have more accommodating bathrooms. Family space in each room features a pull-out couch. The vertical bed wall has new and well-labeled controls. There is a convenient four-way light over the bed.

Some of the features of the new construction includes a new cooking and dining area consolidated on the lower level, new entrance/atrium, new chapel, new gift shop, more isolation rooms, Bariatric lifts on every floor, a meditation garden with prayer labyrinth and Serenity Garden, new and expanded family waiting area for intensive care patients, and more.

A Night of Tennessee Tastes

SUZANNE BOYD
The first of October will not only mark the first of the month but a first for Jackson and the West Tennessee area. The Three Stars of Tennessee Gentlemen’s Committee (TSTGC) will host a night of fun, filled with some of best flavors of Tennessee.

The Three Stars of Tennessee Tastings and Dinner will be Wednesday, October 1, in the North Grand Pavilion of the Jackson Fairgrounds. The event will benefit the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation (WTHF).

Highlighting the evening will be a presentation tasting of Jack Daniel’s premium products led by the evening’s special guest, Jeff Arnett. Jeff, a native Jacksonian, is the seventh Master Distiller in Jack Daniel’s history. “We are honored to have Jeff back in Jackson for this event. Not everyone can say they have had the opportunity to meet a Master Distiller,” said David Fite, TSTGC chairman. “The event will not only be a unique night of fun but I am sure we will all come away with a greater knowledge and appreciation of Jack Daniel’s, all the while benefiting a great foundation that does so much for our community.”

The laid back casual evening, which is for both men and women starts with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., and will include a variety of cocktails and “beertails”, a select tasting of beers offered by Central Distributing. Dinner will be grilled on site by World Champion pit master Darrell Hicks and will include smoked Tripp Country Hams. Rounding out the evening will be music and hand rolled cigars from the Kentucky Gentlemen Cigar Company.

Tickets to the event are available now by contacting the WTHF offices at 731-660-8770.  Individual tickets are $100, seating for eight at a General Jackson Table is $800, and premier seating for eight at one of the Gentlemen Jack Tables is $1,000. Visa, MasterCard, and checks are accepted.

West Tennessee Medical News is proud to not only be one of the media sponsors for the event but to also have publisher, Tom Reed, on the Gentlemen’s committee.  The committee is chairman, David Fite, and vice chairmen, Robert Stewart and Dr. Larry Ray. Other committee members include Larry Smith, Calvin Murphy, Gene Smith, Nobert Putnam, Jeff Watson, and Mark Hawks.
